History of Hemp
Cannabis has a long history worldwide and in Australia with hemp seeds imported into the country on the first fleet. By the 1920s and 1930s, vested interests (Big Pharma, Big Cotton, Big Oil) managed to create fear around the plant leading to prohibition. In 2016 the cultivation of cannabis for medical or other research-related purposes was legalised in Australia. In 2017, certain hemp-based foods were approved for human consumption.
